National Cheese Pizza Day: Celebrating in SLO County

National Cheese Pizza Day is Thursday, September 5! As if we needed another reason to eat pizza…

Although the history of National Cheese Pizza Day is not well documented, the history of pizza is. The modern version of the dish was developed in the late 18th century when tomato was added to focaccia bread in Naples, Italy.

Today the version of pizza we eat in the United States is much different than what Italians ate in the 18th century, and places like Chicago and New York even have their own iconic versions of the pie.

San Luis Obispo doesn’t have their own iconic version of a pizza pie, but there are lots of restaurants that serve amazing pizzas all over the county.

Here are six of our favorites for you to check out and celebrate National Cheese Pizza Day!
