~ Our Mission ~

We love San Luis Obispo County, and San Luis Obispo Guide was started as a way for us to share why we love living here and why tourists love coming here to visit. There are so many wonderful people, amazing places, and incredible products to share (not to mention all the fantastic food, drink, and wine!), and we want to promote that through our website, social channels, and podcast so everyone can discover what makes SLO County so special.

~ Who We Are ~

We are Nick and Nicole Grant, and we started San Luis Obispo Guide in early 2019 because we really do love this county, and wanted to bring our extensive marketing and technical backgrounds to a platform that can promote and share everything that makes SLO County so special.

We both grew in Bakersfield, and were absolutely some of “those people” that take over the beaches during the summer (looking at you, Pismo!).  But we also grew up going to Camp KEEP in Morro Bay and Cambria, exploring tide pools at Montaña de Oro, taking field trips to Hearst Castle to see their Christmas Night Tour, buying bug filled candy at Hotlix in Pismo to gross out our friends, and even went to Harmony before they sold the town!

This county has always held a special place in our hearts, and we could not be more thrilled to be in a place to share it with the world.

Before returning to the area in 2012, Nick and I took a sideways turn from Bakersfield to Seattle.  We actually tried to move out to SLO in 2003 after I finished college, but life took us in a completely different direction and we spent the next nine years in the Pacific Northwest learning and growing with some of the best startups and tech companies in the world.

Nick started working in internet marketing the same year we moved to Seattle, and went from selling diamonds online to being the pop-up ad guy. He worked for lots of startup companies, and finally co-founded one of his own which he built into one of the largest visual communication design agencies in the country.

I worked in Human Resources during that time, finally landing at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Over the next six years I built my programming and technical skills working with both the Human Resources and US K-12 Education teams, and learning from some of the brightest minds in the world about Global Health, Global Development, and US Education.

Since our return in 2012 Nick and I have worked intentionally to support young entrepreneurs and students, which has also brought us closer to the community we call home. Nick continues to volunteer his time with Cal Poly’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and over the years I have worked in support of students through the Dean’s Office at Cuesta’s North County Campus, Cal Poly’s Corporation, and as a trainer at MINDBODY.

These days we spend our days with our flock of five chickens and farm cat, but get out to explore the county every chance we get.  The only difference is now you get to follow us and share in the adventure!
