ABOUT THE WILLOW CREEK DISTRICT

The Willow Creek District is one of eleven sub-districts in the greater Paso Robles AVA, and is one of the most popular districts to visit with several wineries calling the region home.

The district itself is located on the west side of Highway 101, just east of Paso Robles and Templeton. The vast majority of wineries here can be found along Highway 46 West and Vineyard Drive (with many more just a bit farther out), and a short drive from the many restaurants, bars, more tasting rooms, and hotels in the area.

Willow Creek is also neighbors with the Adelaida District to the north and the Templeton Gap District to the south, and benefits from many of the same growing conditions that define those regions. It is that combination of the mountainous terrain along the Santa Lucia Mountain Range and coastal weather that defines Willow Creek though, and what allows the region to produce some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Chardonnay Varietals.

Today the distinct terroir profiles (or growing conditions) of the eleven districts contribute to the production of over 40 varietals (the vast majority crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Roussanne, Zinfandel, Viognier, Merlot, and Syrah), and home to over 200 wineries for locals and tourists to enjoy and explore.

Learn more about the eleven districts below, and make sure to plan your next wine tasting weekend in Paso Robles’s Wine Country!
