Madonna Inn History
The Madonna Inn originally opened in 1958 with 12 rooms, and quickly expanded to 40 by the end of 1959. The inn was instantly a landmark on the central coast, and construction on the main inn (where the restaurants, bakery, and gift shops would be located) began in 1960.
The exterior of the inn was inspired by the swiss alps, and used several large rocks from its 1,000 acre property to build and decorate the rooms and Main Inn. The rooms also feature individual leaded glass windows depicting the theme of the room.
In 1966 the original rooms were burned to the ground in a fire, but by the end of the 1960’s they had been rebuilt, and the 110 rooms were complete.
Today the Madonna Inn sits on 1,000 acres that includes their 110 hotel rooms, main inn with restaurants and shopping, gas and electric vehicle charging stations, day spa, stables and trails for horseback riding, and several indoor and outdoor spaces to host events.
