Sensorio can be described as a gift to the senses, but for Ken Hunter III Sensorio is the “intersection of art, technology, and nature…”, and is the name he has given to his latest passion project: a 380-acre site located on Highway 46 East in Paso Robles, and right in the middle of wine country.
In development since 2002, Hunter has big plans for Sensorio and hopes it will be a “…destination for entertainment, exploration, meditation, adventure, and delight…”. The first phase of development is well underway with an interactive art exhibition: Field of Light by world-renowned artist Bruce Munro, which guests can enjoy through September 30, 2021.
The next phase for Sensorio includes exhibits that provide “….amusing, mystical, and kinetic experiences”, with a hotel and conference center planned for future development.
The next two phases for Sensorio will begin work in 2019 and continue development over a five to six year period.
The Hunter family are no strangers to embarking on passion projects; Ken Hunter III’s father, Ken Hunter Jr., developed Hunter Ranch in 1994, an incredible 18-hole golf course that is also a popular destination for weddings, receptions, and other significant events given its iconic location in the heart of Paso Robles wine country.
The golf course is currently for sale for $4.2 million, and is represented by David Crabtree of Home and Ranch Sotheby’s International Realty. Mr. Hunter III, who currently manages Hunter Ranch Golf Course, confirmed to KSBY that he is not selling the golf course out of financial hardship or in order to fund Sensorio; this is instead a change in focus based on his interests and passions. It is expected that the buyer of Hunter Ranch will maintain it as a golf course.
Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo County are already significant travel destinations, and the development of Sensorio will add a whole new level to what visitors and locals can experience during their time here.
