4 Cats Cafe & Gallery - San Luis Obispo Guide

The 4 Cats Cafe & Gallery is a hidden gem of a coffee shop, restaurant, and loft within walking distance of downtown San Luis Obispo.

Located on Monterey Street, the 4 Cats is one of the few coffee shops north of Santa Rosa, and offers a beautiful, quiet, artsy space to sit, work, and experience a quality cup of coffee brewed with beans by Intelligentsia Coffee Roasters.

The 4 Cats also offers a limited breakfast and lunch menu, and features items like breakfast burritos, avocado toast, and sandwiches in addition to pouring Tolosa Wines for patrons of the coffee shop and gallery.

Originally an art gallery, The 4 Cats still hosts art shows regularly, as well as live music and other artistic performances. Make sure to check their event calendar to see which artists or performers will be visiting soon.

The 4 Cats also has a single loft above the coffee shop and gallery that is available to rent. Nicknamed “The Loft”, the space still has many of the art deco elements from the original 1930’s construction, like the curved ceilings, original hardwood floors, large windows, and brass finishings.

From 101 South, take exit 204 for Monterey Street. At the offramp, turn left onto Buena Vista Avenue and travel approximately .1 mile to Monterey Street. At Monterey Street turn right, and 4 Cats Cafe & Gallery will be approximately .4 mile down the road on the left.

From 101 North, take exit 203C for California Boulevard. At the offramp, turn left onto California Boulevard and follow for .3 miles to Monterey Street. At Monterey Street turn left, and 4 Cats Cafe & Gallery will be approximately 150 feet up the road on the right.

There is not a dedicated parking lot for 4 Cats Cafe & Gallery, but ample street parking in the surrounding blocks.
