The Athletics Department at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is home to 20 sports teams with athletes competing across 13 disciplines.
These student athletes compete at some of the highest levels in their respective fields, and challenge themselves academically too; several of the sports teams score number one in their respective conferences on the Academic Progress Rate report, which is compiled by the NCAA and compares athletes of Division I sports teams academic performance.
Cal Poly Athletics has also seen several of their athletes compete on the world stage, including the Olympics. Athletes like Stephanie Brown Trafton graduated from Cal Poly in 2004 with a degree in Engineering, and went on to take home a gold medal for Women’s Discuss in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. This would be Cal Poly’s first gold medal alumni!
