Second Annual SLO County Beaver Festival
A celebration of beavers through music, beaver expert speakers, family-fun activities and food! Featured speaker Leila Philip, author of “Beaverland”, music by Cuyama Mama and the Hot Flashes, and the Elliot Johnson Band. Local and statewide organizations will be present to share materials about their efforts to protect the environment and celebrate our biodiversity.
Come learn about beavers, the world’s best engineers! Beavers are native to our county, and build a series of dams in our rivers and streams. These dams slow the water down, spread it across the landscape, and allow it to sink into the groundwater table. These dams turn single thread streams into lush wetlands, full of life, offering solutions to our most pressing problems: climate change, wildfires and droughts, and our oceans and bays inundated with pollutants, excess nutrients, trash and excess sediment. Come join in the Beaver Fun on March 23, 10 am to 3 pm in Mission Plaza in San Luis Obispo!
Event sponsors are the City of San Luis Obispo Cultural Arts and Community Promotions, New Times, KCBX, Santa Barbara Permaculture Network, Morro Bay Open Space Alliance, the Beaver Institute and Tetratech.
